World Mission Appeal - Cambodia

Catholic Mission thank you for your ongoing support of many prayers and generous donations to our World Mission Month Appeals and our other appeals throughout the year. Your generosity enables us to continue our vital work in 1,100 dioceses around the world including the important work of the Church in Cambodia, which is this year’s appeal, giving support and hope to those who have been affected by disability in Cambodia.

This World Mission Month Appeal theme comes from Nehemiah 8:10, ‘For the joy of the Lord is your strength’, and it reminds us that it is our faith in God that builds us and strengthens us, especially in times of need and hardship.

Today, landmine accidents are still prevalent in Cambodia, a cruel reminder of the country’s troubled past, even for those who were not yet born like Chen in our appeal story who at 16 lost both of his legs well after the tumultuous years of the Khmer Rouge regime and civil conflicts.

Watch the video to learn more about Chen and how the Church in Cambodia has supported him and his family at the Arrupe Centre, in the Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang in north-western Cambodia which was established by Bishop Enrique ‘Kike’ Figaredo Alvargonzalez in 2001 and has evolved over the past twenty years from a short-term rehabilitation centre to a full-time home for children with disability, whether it be from landmine accidents or from illnesses such as polio.
