HISTORY MADE - And the Diocese of Geraldton Celebrates
History was made in Geraldton on Wednesday 29 May when Rev Duong Duc Quyet Tam (Peter), Rev Hoang Phuc (Dominic) and Rev Nguyen Huu Tuan (Savio) were ordained Deacons at a first ever triple Diaconate Ordination at St Francis Xavier Cathedral.
The Bishop of Geraldton, The Most Rev Michael Morrissey, had graciously asked the Emeritus Bishop of Geraldton, The Most Rev Justin Bianchini, to be the ordaining bishop for the occasion because Bishop Bianchini was responsible for them coming to minister in the Diocese of Geraldton.
The Cathedral was at capacity for the occasion with around 500 family and friends of the ordinands coming from Vietnam, the Eastern States and elsewhere in Western Australia for the occasion.
In his homily, Bishop Bianchini reminded the deacons to found their ministry of service in a prayerful reading of Scripture, to believe what they read, teach what they believe and practice what they teach.
Bishop Bianchini said the power and credibility of their ministry would be found in their personal witnessing to what they teach and preach.
The 6th of November this year will be another historical occasion when for the first time in the history of the Cathedral, the three Deacons, Rev Savio, Rev Dominic and Rev Peter, will be Ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Michael Morrissey.
