The Senate will debate euthanasia this month (August). As you may already know the Seante has decided to debate the Restoring Territory Rights (Assisted Suicide Legislation) Bill 2015 on 14th, 15th and 16th of August, to allow territories the right to make laws on euthanasia. If the bill passes, it will effectively mean euthanasia will be legalised in the ACT and perhaps also in the Northern Territory.

Bishop Michael urges everyone to please contact thier Senators TODAY and ask them to protect vulnerable people by voting against the Bill. A phone call or letter fares better than emails do, but they are better than nothing at all.

It would be good if you would visit the HOPE website link in the image on the right to send a message as well.

The Australian Catholic Bishops site contains good information 'Real care, love and compassion - the alternative to euthanasia' that you may wish to read.

Vision Statement

We are:

* a welcoming community which reaches out to all
* celebrating Christ's presence
* joyfully living out our Christian calling across distance and diversity

This vision states that as a Diocese, we aim to be a welcoming, missionary, centred on Christ, and each striving to live one's particular vocation. It is in living out our calling that we praise God, follow Christ, influence society and achieve the goal of eternal life won for us by Christ. In the parishes we have encouraged people to measure whatever they do against this Diocesan vision.
