Mr Peter Baldry, a teacher at Nagle Catholic College, has organised a number of Immersion experiences over the past few years through the Edmund Rice Centre in Perth.

The inspiration behind this Immersion comes from the movie, 'The Rabbit Proof Fence". This film is loosely based on the true story "Following the Rabbit Proof Fence" by Doris Pilkington Garimara. Doris's own mother is Molly, one of the three mixed race children, who were foreceable removed from their homes and who then ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement in 1931 to return home to their Aboriginal families 2400kms away.

Bishop Michael was very happy for the Diocese of Geraldton to support the Immersion experience and encourages everyone to consider it as a way to deepen our awareness of the first Australians and the many challenges they still face today.

On the Immersion you will retrace the footsteps of Molly and Daisy Craig and Gracie Fields along the Rabbit Proof Fence from Moore River to Jigalong Station, and then experience the wonder of Karijini and Nigaloo. Travelling by coaster bus and sleeping under the stars in rural accommodation, you will gain a unique insight into the Stolen Generation and an experience an intimate glimpse of the beauty of the Australina outback.

This amazing experience is offered to the many adults who are interested in furthering their experience with the indigenous culture.

The Immersion will take place from the 23 - 30th September, 2018 at a cost of $700. Numbers are capped so act quickly to secure a place.

Vision Statement

We are:

* a welcoming community which reaches out to all
* celebrating Christ's presence
* joyfully living out our Christian calling across distance and diversity

This vision states that as a Diocese, we aim to be a welcoming, missionary, centred on Christ, and each striving to live one's particular vocation. It is in living out our calling that we praise God, follow Christ, influence society and achieve the goal of eternal life won for us by Christ. In the parishes we have encouraged people to measure whatever they do against this Diocesan vision.
